Born in Hokkaido, Yuki Nagaya is a Hokkaido native who spent his school years running around the northern lands competing in track and field events. He then worked as a hiking guide in the Canadian Rocky Mountains Nature Parks in Canada. After returning to Japan, he began working as a mountaineering guide in his hometown of Hokkaido. He offers custom-designed guided tours in the mountains throughout Hokkaido.

My business name “Pika” is the English name of the naki-rabbit. In Japan, the pike lives only in certain areas in Hokkaido. They are said to be survivors of the Ice Age and have survived because of their small bodies for a long time. In the face of nature, we humans are as small as the Japanese pika. The power of nature is mighty. Sometimes it makes us sigh with breath-taking emotion, while at other times it bares its fangs. Following in the footsteps of the tiny pika rabbit, which has learned how to survive in the harsh yet wonderful nature of Hokkaido, we are committed to providing a safe and secure guiding service. We believe that it is our duty as guides to enhance the charm of Hokkaido many times over through our guiding services. Q: What is your most memorable experience in nature?
When I was blown away by a 20 m/s wind during a traverse of Mount Tokachi in severe winter. Even though I wished for the wind to calm down, the strong wind kept blowing mercilessly. No one would help me. I had to do something by myself to survive. I felt firsthand that this is what nature is like.
