Local food
Enjoy fresh seafood and local produce prepared by the on-site chef and team.
Tokachi boasts an abundance of riches in both food and natural beauty, but very few tourists get the chance to visit this magical region. This is your chance to explore a part of the Japanese countryside on your own, avoiding the crowds and being in control.
On this adventure, you will spend one night camping by a lake in Daisetsuzan National Park and two nights in unique, beautiful accommodations deep in the forest.
Daisetsuzan National Park is Japan’s wildest and largest national park, and Tokachi is the heartland of Japan's wild northern island, Hokkaido.
Daisetsuzan is known as the rooftop of Hokkaido for its unspoiled mountain peaks, and Tokachi is blessed with rich nature popular among fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. Here you will find majestically wide plains, which are anchored by snow capped mountains and crystal-clear rivers and lakes.
Pick up your Moving Inn camper van at Obihiro Airport and explore the natural beauty of Daisetsuzan National Park, the “roof of Hokkaido“. Stop at Rokka no Mori before driving into the national park and staying at a campground by Lake Shikaribetsu.
Explore the lake by canoe or go for a hike before driving to an onsen for lunch and a hot spring soak. Then drive to Moving Inn’s “Kita-no-Mori”, a magical campground hidden deep in the forest, where you can park your van next to your suite. Staff will prepare ingredients and assist you in preparing a meal. Enjoy the sauna and open-air bath while stargazing at night.
The staff will prepare a Japanese breakfast for you, and then you can go on a morning hike along the Nubinai river. You’ll move to the Grand Suite Nagame to see a different side of the forest campgrounds. We will teach you how to extract todomatsu essential oil in the afternoon. Dinner on this night will be prepared by a local chef.
The staff will prepare a western breakfast and you can join morning yoga by the river or just relax until checking out. The Moving Inn will give you recommendations for scenic spots to drive around this final day, and then you’ll drive back to Obihiro Airport for departure.
Moving Inn
Moving Inn specializes in providing customized camping van experiences exploring the natural beauty of Hokkaido.
Moving Inn has built its own campsite deep in the forest of Tokachi to allow guests to enjoy nature in the most natural way possible. There are two kinds of accommodations: Grand Suites, and Nature Suites. You get to stay one night in each.
Grand Suites are Japanese-style trailer homes with a private sauna, a wood-fired open-air bath, and a dining area with a fireplace. The Nature Suites are private campsites where you can sleep either in a tent or the camper van. They also have a private sauna and open-air bath.
Dinners are either hot pot courses cooked over firewood, utilizing fresh meats, vegetables, and seafood from the region, or BBQ steak dinners. One night, a chef will cook for you, and the other night the staff prepare everything for you to make a meal.
Breakfast one morning is Japanese style (fresh fish grilled over charcoal and miso soup), and the other morning is western-style (free-range eggs, local bacon, and bread baked in a wood-fired oven)
