Lake Chuzenji in Okunikko holds a history dating back to the Heian period. The surrounding primeval forest retains its original form from that time, encompassing a circumference of 25 km. This area is a realm where the only sounds I hear are the songs of birds and the gentle flow of water. It's a place dotted with spots that truly make me want to "explore" - from historic colossal stones and islets to beautiful white sand beaches. The vicinity also hosts temples and villas from four different countries' embassies, providing glimpses of both the splendor of nature and a history spanning from the Middle Ages to modern times. Whether it's sunny, rainy, or even windy, the way I enjoy myself is shaped by my creativity. I'll take you to places where you can experience the unique joys that only locals know how to uncover.
Guide Q&A
Q: What is your most memorable experience in nature?
The deep powder in Nagano's Okushiga. The sound of snow landing on the surface, the calls of birds, the distant thunder echoing from snowy clouds. It's an experience of being immersed in nature, as a human presence amidst it all.
Q: What does nature represent to you?
A friend, something I respect, and a presence that evokes both admiration and awe.
Q: What has nature taught you?
Humans are both extraordinary beings and, at the same time, not inherently exceptional. It's about acknowledging our place as fellow members of the Earth's community.
Q: What do you hope that people will get out of experiences with you as a guide?
The profound blend of nature and history in Okunikko. When we think of "Nikko," the image of Nikko Toshogu Shrine often comes to mind. However, this region boasts its own unique natural beauty and historical significance. Through outdoor sports, I aim for you to experience and truly feel the essence of this distinctive environment and history that Okunikko offers.
