About

The Takashima Trail, is one of the most popular trails in western Japan. It runs along an old scenic mountain road along the central divide of Shiga Prefecture. It is a wild trail with many ups and downs, and has 12 major peaks and 12 major passes that go over the Saba Highway and into Wakasa. The trail is also a historical trail, with many stories of warlords and warriors left behind, allowing visitors to feel the breath of ancient times. We invite you on this adventure tour to enjoy the nature, culture, and history of the Takashima Trail. We will be staying in tents and cottages rented exclusively for your hike. Premium support including campsite setup and pick-up and drop-off is included for an easy hike. You can choose to experience the first half or the second half of the trail route, each 3 days/2 nights. Sample itinerary for the first half of the Takashima Trail: Day 1: Start at JR Makino Station and hike to Kurokawa Pass (overnight stay in tents) Day 2: Hike from Kurokawa Pass to Nukuko (overnight stay at inn) Day 3: Hike from Nukuko to JR Omi Izumi Station. End around 16:00. Sample itinerary for the second half of the Takashima Trail: Day 1: Start at JR Omi Izumi Station and hike to Yokotani Pass (overnight stay at inn) Day 2: Hike from Yokotani Pass to Onyu Pass (overnight stay in tents) Day 3: Hike from Onyu Pass to Kutsuki Onsen Tenku (relax in hot spring), then hike to JR Omi Izumi Station. End around 18:00.

Equipment

・ Rental equipment: Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping bag mat, and portable gas burner ・ Please bring: hiking shoes, backpack (approx. 30L), rainwear (separate top and bottom), warm clothing (down jacket etc.), appropriate hiking wear (non-cotton underwear, fleece), gloves, hat, drinks, and lunch (high-calorie food) ・ We will be cooking our own meals so please buy these locally or bring them with you

・ Please follow all of the guide's instructions. ・ Please follow the rules at the inns we will stay at. ・ If you are coming to the meeting place by car please make sure parking is available. Pay parking is available around Omi Imazu Station. Free parking is available at Makino Station (about 20 spaces).

By car: From Nagoya - From Maibara, take the Hokuriku Expressway toward Fukui. - From Kinomoto toll booth, take Route 303 to Makino Station or Omi Imazu Station. From Kyoto or Osaka - From Kyoto Higashi IC of Meishin Expressway, drive north on Route 161 to Omi Imazu Station or Makino Station. By train: From Nagoya - Take the Shinkansen to Maibara. - At Maibara Station, transfer to the Hokuriku Line to Omi Shiotsu Station. - From Omi Shiotsu, transfer to Kosei Line and go to Makino Station for Omi Imazu Station. From Kyoto or Osaka - Take the JR Kosei Line bound for Omi Imazu or Nagahara
