Itinerary

The orientation will include lectures on equipment and activities to enjoy backcountry skiing more safely. We will also practice in a game format how to use a beacon in case of an avalanche. Climbing skins, snowshoes, and walking tips will also be tested. In this beginner's plan, we will enjoy 400 - 600m of skiing altitude difference. On the day of the tour, we will enjoy the wide open space of the mountain. After the tour, please join us for the advanced Red and Yellow Plans. * Meeting time is 8:00 a.m. (advance notice will be given) * We will end the tour from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Requirements

Q: Do I need to be physically fit? A: If you enjoy skiing or snowboarding on the slopes, you should be fine. The entire walk together takes a little over an hour. We will be interspersing orientation and breaks along the way, so you will only be walking continuously for about 15 minutes. Q: Is it okay if I don't know anything about the backcountry? A: Of course you don't need to know anything. We will pass on the knowledge and skills needed during orientation and the tour itself. Q: What about skiing techniques? A: As long as you can ski down anywhere from the top to the bottom of the ski slope, you should be fine. You don’t need fancy skills. You just need to be able to come down in a controlled manner.

Equipment

Q: What should I wear and bring? A: As for clothing and skiing equipment, you can use what you normally wear when you go out to the slopes. Other things you will need include the following ・ A backpack (one that can fit skis or snowboards; rentals available) ・ Sunglasses (to protect your eyes from UV rays) ・ Lunch (something easy to eat during the activity) ・ Water bottle (plastic bottle is acceptable) ・ Warm clothing (fleece, sweater, etc.) ・ Snow walking equipment (climbing skins, snowshoes, poles, etc.; rental available) ・ Avalanche gear (beacons, probes, shovels, etc. available for rent) Rent your backcountry gear and get ready to go backcountry!
