About

The Owase and Minamiise areas on the east coast of the Kii Peninsula are dotted with deep inlets and unique coastlines. The area boasts the highest rainfall in Japan, and with Odaigahara, one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains, in the background, there is a rich rainforest, several famous waterfalls, and the Kumano Nada Sea facing the Pacific Ocean. In this place rich in history and nature, where there is no hustle and bustle, we will paddle to an empty beach, and once ashore, we will spend an almost pristine time that we cannot experience in our daily lives. We invite you to enjoy the slow pace of our ancestors while gathering firewood, making a fire, and gazing at the star-filled sky to fully engage all five of your senses.

Itinerary

Day 1 Meet at JR Kii-Nagashima or Owase station and head to the departure point (about 30 minutes). Upon arrival, we will take our time packing our kayaks and then check our kayaking skills and give a lecture before departure. We will depart first thing in the afternoon for the tour's base camp location, where we will spend a half-day touring to get acclimated and enjoy paddling and the surrounding scenery. Upon arrival, we will set up our base camp for the next 5 days and begin our fun camping life. Days 2-4 You can spend the day paddling in the Kumano Nada Sea, relaxing on empty beaches, or depending on the sea conditions, you can follow a safe route to explore a trekking trail along a series of cliffs over 200 meters high, swim in the lake, or enjoy fishing. Of course, there will be time to relax at a quiet campsite. All meals during the tour will be cooked over an open fire. Day 5 On the last day of the tour, we will paddle back to the starting point. We will end the tour in the early afternoon, unpack and leave the area. On the way back, we will stop at a local hot spring facility to remove the sweat and smell of the bonfires from the five days. Day 6 On the final day, we will explore the Kumano Kodo Trail and visit Takihara Shrine and Ise Jingu Shrine while enjoying local food along the way. The tour will end at Iseshi Station.
